Description

The Humanities Institute (HI) at The Pennsylvania State University seeks Visiting Research Professors to begin in the fall of the 2019-20 academic year. The mission of the Institute is to support research and teaching in the humanities in a collaborative spirit and in so doing underscore the social value of humanities work. As part of a new initiative called Humanities in the World, we announce the availability of Visiting Research Professors at the Institute beginning in the 2019-20 Academic year and continue into the future. Scholars must have a PhD or equivalent and must be at least three years out from the completion of the degree. Applications can be for any time period from three weeks to a full year, beginning in Fall 2019. Support for Visitors will include partial salary replacement, office space and research support, and integration into a community of scholars who value collaboration and interdisciplinary scholarship. No teaching is required during the Residency, but residence at Penn State University Park is expected. Participation in appropriate Penn State research groups and initiatives is encouraged according to the needs and preferences of the Visiting Research Professor. Applicants must be nominated by current Penn State faculty, and evidence of shared research interests with a significant number of faculty must be shown. The HI also encourages co-applications from groups of two or more people working on a single project. The objective of the program is to provide Scholars with an opportunity to pursue research projects that enhance the social value of humanities work. Interested candidates must submit an online application at and must upload a letter of application and a CV. Review of applications will begin immediately and continue until the positions are filled.
