The Center for Science and the Schools (CSATS), located within the College of Education, is seeking applicants for a non-tenured track STEM Education Specialist/Outreach Liaison to be located in the Harrisburg/Hershey, PA region. Primary responsibilities include: Serve as a liaison and communications specialist between CSATS and Penn State Health Milton S. Hershey Medical Center, Penn State Harrisburg; school districts, Intermediate Units, and other Penn State campuses in conjunction with CSATS outreach team; Assist Penn State science and engineering researchers in designing and implementing programs to support K-12 teachers' learning of content and teaching pedagogy; Design, manage, implement, and evaluate CSATS programs, such as curriculum development and teacher professional development; Oversee CSATS' collaborations with intermediate units and local schools to support their implementation of STEM in their schools and assist in tailoring professional development workshops as needed; Contribute to electronic outreach efforts by maintaining monthly electronic newsletter featuring new and ongoing Penn State STEM outreach programs for distribution to K-12 teachers, industry, foundations and other stakeholders and maintaining social media platforms (Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter); Assist with grant writing and proposal submissions; Support existing and future CSATS projects as needed. Required qualifications include: Bachelor's degree in a science field and teacher certification in secondary science; At least five years of formal secondary-level science teaching experience; Experience conducting science or engineering research; Outstanding interpersonal skills and ability to work in teams; and Demonstrated academic writing skills.
