The Data Analyst Graduate Assistant (GA) in Student Affairs Research and Assessment (SARA) assists with measuring the effectiveness of strategic initiatives within Student Affairs, such as cocurricular learning and student engagement. Projects vary from year to year and may include assisting with the assessment of Penn State SAFE and AWARE, the New Student Survey, the Student Experience Survey, and the Student Drinking Survey. General responsibilities include: collaborating with student affairs professionals to develop good assessment and planning practices, managing multiple datasets and projects simultaneously; assisting with design of assessment projects, assisting with implementation of data collection processes; cleaning/managing data files and conducting statistical analyses; proofreading reports for statistical errors and inconsistencies. This position will also be responsible for generating reports on some projects. Qualified candidates must be current Penn State graduate students who are able to demonstrate understanding of and proficiency with SPSS (or similar statistical software packages) and other data management programs (e.g., Microsoft Access and Excel), and knowledge of quantitative methods and analysis. Preference will be given to candidates who exhibit evidence of familiarity with: advanced quantitative methods/analysis; qualitative methods/analysis; student development and environment theories, the student affairs profession, and/or the Penn State Student Affairs division. Preference will be given to candidates who would be available for at least two years of employment. This is a 10-month position from August 2019 to May 2020 for 20 hours a week. In accordance with graduate school guidelines, the position includes a monthly stipend and a tuition fee waiver.
