Penn State Abington seeks a candidate with a demonstrated passion for working with marginalized student populations and helping them to flourish in a campus environment. The successful candidate will have a proven track record for advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives in higher education along with experience with underrepresented, underserved and 1st generation student populations. This position will develop, implement and monitor programs, initiatives, and events that assist in the recruitment and retention of minoritized students, and offer guidance and support to these populations. The position directly supervises the Office of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion programs, and events, professional and paraprofessional staff and reports to the Director of Student Affairs. We seek a candidate who will provide leadership to the re-established Office of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion. The successful candidate will be a collaborative partner to units across the college and assist in establishing best practices related to diversity, equity and inclusion. A successful candidate will lead and develop campus programming pertaining to diversity, equity and inclusion including training programs that enhance diversity awareness, promote cultural fluency and improve responsiveness to diversity issues. This role is also responsible for identifying appropriate metrics for evaluating the success of programs and activities and effectively communicating outcomes to the campus community. A successful candidate will be responsible for managing all aspects of the campus diversity and social justice education programming including University programs such as Safe Zone, Stand for State and All In. In addition, the position will monitor campus climate and national trends relevant to diversity and provide responsive leadership. Penn State Abington is located on a beautiful, historic, suburban campus in Abington Township, just 15 minutes from the Philadelphia city line. Penn State Abington is the fifth largest campus in the world-renown Pennsylvania State University. Typically requires a Master's degree or higher plus eight years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience in diversity, equity and inclusion in higher education is preferred. The successful candidate will display a broad-based knowledge of diverse populations with an emphasis on multicultural, LGBTQ, underrepresented, and underserved populations of ethnic and racial cultures, faith traditions, domestic and international communities; demonstrate expertise in best practices in diversity, equity and inclusion; demonstrate proven ability to initiate and oversee major programs and initiatives in diversity, equity and inclusion; have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, ability to facilitate, mediate and train in diversity, equity and inclusion topics, strong leadership and management abilities, as well as conflict management and advocacy skills, ability to effectively handle information that is confidential and/or sensitive; embrace an institutional culture of care, social justice, equity, and access; and have demonstrated experience as a collaborative leader who inspires confidence and trust. The successful candidate will also display excellent administrative and organizational skills including supervision, budget management, student advising, student learning, and program development; demonstrated understanding of intersecting identities that include, but are not limited to, race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, religion, disability, age, and socio-economic status; demonstrated experience promoting dialogue among students, faculty, and staff as well as with community members, and other university constituencies; and proven ability to inspire and nurture a climate of inclusiveness, collegiality, and shared responsibility.
