The laboratory of Dr. Shaun Mahony in the Biochemistry and Molecular Biology Department at Penn State is seeking a Computational Scientist 3 to perform computational biology analysis and software development in the area of regulatory genomics. The primary focus of the Computational Scientist position is to develop machine learning approaches for characterizing protein-DNA interactions in very large collections of ChIP-seq and ChIP-exo datasets. This Computational Scientist will build and maintain bioinformatics pipelines, analyze and interpret experimental results, develop new computational methods, and co-author research reports for presentation or publication. The Computational Scientist will also be expected to manage research projects, including assisting the PI in providing oversight to graduate students and research staff, and organizing research projects with collaborators. Developing and applying the computational analysis approaches will be carried out in close collaboration with the laboratories of Dr. Frank Pugh and Dr. Ross Hardison. Strong programming experience in a common language (such as Java, Python, C/C++, Perl, or R) is required.
